Dismissed and Accused
I worked at Woolworths,Blueroute mall Tokia,30 November 2020. When I first started off in store I was on training for two days as a cashier and the third day of training I had to do back shopping. For the first week of working some of the people weren't very nice and being a supervisor or manager you have to teach and treat the newcomers nicely,in my case it was the complete opposite. People spoke and looked at me weirdly and were kind of mean. In December of 2020 an incident occurred that I wasn't aware of. It was the 20 December, close to Christmas time and the store was chaotic. On 15 January 2022,I went to work as per normal, signed in and went straight to the cash office to collect my float. As I was waiting for my float,I got weird looks from the cash officer and everyone else in the office. After standing and waiting for about 10 minutes for my float, the cash officer told me that i need to leave the office and wait on my manager, when I asked why she told me that my manager will speak to me when he gets there. I did as I was told and waited on him, eventually he showed up and told me to follow him to his office. A few moments later he said that he has to do an Q&A with me abd I was confused. He then started off and asked me if I was aware that R2000 cash went missing out my register on the 20th December and I froze and informed him that I wasn't aware of anything up until he did the Q&A. There was follow up questions about if I remember anything that took place 20 December 2020 and I couldn't recall anything on that day because it's been weeks since I was informed. He then informed me that there will be an investigation taking place with regards to the missing cash and he suspended me with pay immediately. A week after I was notified that I had to go into store to view footage. When I arrived they showed me footage of a lady at the bank counting my float, I asked where the footage of the day the incident occurred was and I was told that it doesn't stay on the system for mire than two weeks. Again they did a Q&A with me asking about that specific day and I told them the same thing and asked why they only informed me 3 weeks later instead of in the week of the incident and they told me something about the bank that doesn't collect the floats on a Sunday and they only got word back the Wednesday of that week it occurred. After all of that I was told that I have to attend the disciplinary hearing which took place in February 2021. I think it was two weeks before my hearing that my manager told me to resign before they continue the investigation because that's my best and only option. I in turn informed him that if I do resign I will look like the guilty party and I won't resign without clearing my name first. Fast forward to the day of the hearing, I was asked the exact same questions that was asked in the Q&A. During the hearing I asked the Chairperson why we don't count our cash float before cashing out and he responded with, 'It takes up too much time. That process was implemented a few years back but because it's a long process they put a stop to it' . I also again question the fact that there was no footage of the day I worked and I got the same response my manager told me. At the end of the hearing I was dismissed immediately and the initiator approached me and told me that I shouldn't worry because if one door closes another opens and that what occurred shouldn't get me down and that it won't reflect on my record. But while I had to go to the admin staff to get myself removed off the system, the lady there explained that what I think is W7 or something like that would go on my record and the amount I had to be paid during my suspension was showed to me. While I got paid I didn't receive all of it. I did end up taking this entire matter to CCMA and explained everything and in return I received a certificate saying the matter is unresolved and I should take it up with arbitration, which I did but they didn't understand what I was saying so I left the matter until now because I cannot get a job because of what happened at Woolworths. I need help.
