I refer especially to the Woolworths Cavendish Square, Claremont Branch in Cape Town. On more than one occasion, security checked my bags on leaving the store... No, the beeper did not sound.

Those grouchy security women would rummage through my bag, toss items on the floor in full view of passing shoppers. I once said that I don't see them doing this to other customers. I was informed that they do it randomly.. How do I always happen to be the random customer?

I asked for a manager, while el groucho dug into my bag, without saying a word, one afternoon. Very casually she remarked, 'I'll speak to management.' (She was management!)

On another occasion, I purchased a pair of shoes from Country Road, I also had a belt. On my way to pay, I decided I didn't quite like the belt, and returned it to where I'd originally found it, paid for the shoes. On reaching the exit, an abrupt female security stopped me, ' Where's the belt?' I frown and told her I put it back. 'THEY SAY YOU MUST GO SHOW,' she retorts. Oh my goodness, the humiliation and embarrassment!

I walk back, seething to SHOW where the belt is. When I reach the arrangement of belts, I find an assistant, very lazily neatening the rails. In the same lazy fashion, she looks at me, I tell her about the incident, she doesn't say a word and walks away. I knew she was pretending, because she never works on the floor, she is at Customer Services for returns. We always have a conversation when she assists me.

To this day I am clueless about that incident. Other customers change their minds and don't even bother to return garments to their original rails. Why did I have to?

Is security allowed to scratch in one's bag, turn everything upside down and take items out and put them on the floor? If they have security cameras, why am I always the RANDOM customer? Are their assistants even explained what etiquette is? Does the security company inform their workers to be morose and rude? Is it because I have a tote bag in which I put all my purchases, even though in separate parcels? Lug them all in one bag is so much easier to carry? ... why am I even explaining this?

To the security and assistants (and assistance) at Cavendish Square Claremont Branch in Cape Town, if it happens to me one more time, I'll be sure to inform my lawyer, prove serious ************** and abuse, as well as deformation due to humiliation and embarrassment in public. And believe me, their will be witnesses. I will not allow your horrible behaviour to deter me from my freedom as to where I wish to shop. To the person at the cameras, I dare you to have me sent back to replace an item to where it ought to be!! Be assured, there'll be an article in the newspaper when it occurs again... including pictures!
