Damaged clothing

On Saturday 13 June 2020 my husband and I bought several clothing items and when we got to the till we realized that some of the items we had purchased were on sale and amongst those were male jerseys ss longline A so my husband grabbed another jersey and it was scanned neither my husband nor the gentleman at till checked the jersey. When we got home and my husband was about to fit the clothes he so that the second jersey had a dot of pen ink. The clothes were in the woolworths packet between leaving pavilion and getting home and the first time he took it out of the packet was to try it on. At no stage was the clothing exposed to a pen or ink and surely if was it would have been on other clothes or more on the jersey itself. So when we returned the item we were told that woolworths will not take it because he should have checked the jersey before, the same argument could be raised that the gentleman at the till should have checked it before scanning and he didn't so why must the blame lie with us and be told that the jersey will not be resellable so the question to ask is if the ink dot was discovered what will woolworths done with the item and it is our believe that they should do what they would have done with it if they discovered the dot on Saturday. We have no reason to lie and must point out that the way the shop was busy on that day and that time no items were inspected before scanning but were merely scanned. So it is our request that woolworths should allow us to exchange the jersey and do with the jersey what they would have done with it if both parties discoverers the damage in the shop on Saturday.
