Card Balance Protection Fee

I have paid off my Woolworths account in full. With other retailers I have accounts with, once a balance is paid they do not continue to add card balance protection fees. Except with Woolworths!

I am so angry that every month Woolworths continues to add R15.40 to my statement. Claiming that it is insurance for in the event you lose your card. My understanding is that a card balance protection fee is insurance against settling your balance in the event of something happening that prevents you from being able to continue to pay that account (for instance, in death).

It is not, as your call centre agent said, for replacing a lost card. Unless I am understanding it incorrectly.

Therefore, once a balance is paid - there should be no reason to continue charging the customer a card balance fee!!

I have a zero balance with 2 other retailers - neither of which continue to charge me a card balance fee.

If this is the case, then I will be closing my account, and you would have lost a long-time customer.

Interesting that Woolworths has not bothered responding to this complaint. The matter was resolved eventually by a more intelligent person in the Call Centre who actually knew what she was talking about - unlike the previous stupid and uninformed call centre I first spoke to. Still - I am disappointed that Woolworths has ignored a complaint on HelloPeter.
