Canal walk (Cape Town) Woolworths poor customer service

I am so disappointed and I have never felt disrespected like this my entire life.

We went to canal walk/century city (Cape Town) woolwoths with my partner to buy a handbag, when my partner was at the till the cashier started asking him disturbing questions. She asked if he wanted to lay-by the bag and my partner was clear he wants to purchase the bag.

She repeatedly asked him if he want to lay-by and she started laughing, the other cashier who was clearly her friend saw this and signal to her to stop what she was doing.

The other cashier started helping us as the other one was bursting in laughter, we paid for the bag and after she asked us if we needed a bag to put the bag we purchased mind you she didn’t asked us this before we paid like any normal cashier would, we said yes and they took out a small bag which was clear that it won’t fit,

They thn told us that we need to pay R1.70 and we said we don’t have a problem with that, but when they realised the bag was too small , they laughed again and looked at us and told us it doesn’t fit we thn asked for a bigger bag, their bad remarks came again ‘’ the bigger bag is R2 are you willing to pay’’ Like for real?

I responded and said yes, the other lady who seemed like a manager approached where we were standing asking if we are owk and I clearly stated No and explained how I’m not impressed with the treatment and service I and my partner were getting.

After explaining what had happened, the entire time we were standing there trying to pay for the bag.

She responded rudely stating we should have told them if we didn’t understand afrinkaans as they were laughing at the afrinkaans joke that was made by another customer, which I can say boldly therre was no joke that was made by the customer that was being serviced before us and they were not laughing when we got there until it was our turn to pay for the bag.

The manager didn’t apologise she looked at her cashier and told us we are customers and she will talk to them.

I’m so disgusted by this behaviour as we were undermined and made to feel like we didn’t afford a mere handbag and we were further told that will be refunded the initial R1.70 that we paid for first small packaging bag and we told them we don’t need any refund and the manger said are you sure .

I am sure that nothing will be done to ensure that those ladies never repeat what they did to us. She felt no remorse nor the need to apologise after the behaviour and attitude they had towards us.

The other cashier was quiet she was the only one who seemed to understand and realised that they treated us badly, as she was the one who was trying to get her friend to act accordingly from the beginning when she kept asking us stupid questions instead of letting us pay for the bag.

I’m angry and shaking never have we felt disrespected as such, we can’t just go to woolies and get a handbag if we don’t afford one and also to be told we should have said if we didn’t understand afrinkaans what kind of nonsense is that.

That time those ladies were speaking pure English the entire time we were standing there.

Regards Disgusted customer
