BRILLIANT BLACK BAGS

Dear Woolworths,

I would like to point out my disgust with your management of making clients buy your black fabric bags. You should give us the opportunity to choose between plastic, paper bags or this horrible option. I have been experiencing this problem since you introduced this bag to us in 2020. I complained in stores about this on many occasions but a deaf ear is thrown at my complaint which I feel is very valid.

You proclaim that these bags are made from fabric but do not mark the fibre composition of these bags for the consumer to know what the materials are to construct these bags. The reasoning I get in stores is that Woolworths are going green and using an environmentally friendly option. I worked in retail for many years and have been in the textile industry as well so I understand what is going on here on the backdrop of your floored plan. I did a very simple test on these bags and I can note that they are made from 100% polyester spun bond, a fabric that is used for masks. The fibres of this material are bonded with adhesive so it is not a woven fabric bag at all. It is also highly flammable which can be a detriment to society in general, they also do not seem to be bio degradable or recyclable although they are re-usable……plastic bags are also reusable until it degrades. My problem with this option you have thrown at us is that I don’t usually plan to just drive to Woolworths alone, it is most a “on the spot” decision after I have already left home so I don’t have the bags and have to buy new ones each time I shop and I now sit with 100’s of them which are of no use and will eventually end up in landfills or ******* dumps and eventually in our oceans, still an environment hazard?

The next issue I have is that every item in your food stores are packaged in plastics or plastic components which defeats the purpose of being environmentally friendly in one option only which comes at a cost to the consumer. I suspect that Woolworths have been stuck in a poor contract via poor negotiations and management for which the consumer fits the bill. In your clothing stores you provide paper bags which seems to have the right contract in place so why make us pay for a poor fabric bag unless you are stuck with it and making the consumer chew up your mess??? Get rid of these hazardous bags at your own expense, you already fleece us enough with your price, a simple example is your Avocado’s which are at twice the market price.

All your items in your food stores can be packaged in more environmentally friendly materials, start there then fleece us, an example is your oild in plastic containers which can be packaged in environmentally friendly light metal bio degradable materials. STOP PULLING THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES AND FIX THIS MESS VIA YOUR OWN MEANS AND FINANANCES, us consumers are already facing a difficult economic situation and you are adding to our woes!
