Angry customer

I have an account with Woolworths, which I've been having for more than ten years now. I was at the stage where I paid off my account and did not use it for about 5 years. Last year I started using my account again, I bought something, but I don't remember when last year I made the purchase. Since I made the purchase, I have never received any statements from Woolworths. When you make a payment, the receipt does not indicate the remaining balance, so I was just relying on my counting. Based on my counting, I somehow thought I had settled my account, and only to find out yesterday when I went to make a purchase, I was told that I don't have any credit available. Finance Department realised that my account was in fact suspended because I have been handed over for non-payment. When I called the legal department, to my surprise, I was handed over for R200 and couple of rands. My concern is the issue of communication. Woolworths is claiming that they tried to contact me on a number that has not been working for over 2 years now (this reason for me will be an exception because I have changed my cell number and have not informed the retail store of the changes). Seemingly according to them, I made a purchase on September 2017, paid Oct and Nov, and never paid again. I assume, they would have tried calling me January and February 2018, and March 2018 I was handed over. My question was, if they telephonically tried getting hold of me without any success, since they have my postal address, why didn't they send me a letter to inform me about the situation, secondly, they don't even bother to send me statements of account, hence all along I have been assuming that my account is fully paid. If I had financial problems, I would have been at least paying about R30 every month rather than overlooking my account. What makes me angry, this will certainly affect my credit rating. I mean, I pay R4000 every month for my car instalment (irrespective of other instalments that I pay) and ignore merely R200. I feel that I've been unfairly treated. It would have been something if I was told that they tried every means of communication without any success. None the less, what happened to them sending me the statement of account because I would have been aware of what I'm paying and what is remaining.
