I will report you to the ombudsman and take you to court for misleading information

I am experiencing ongoing issues with Wonga, including inconsistent settlement amounts, non-recalculated instalments, and poor communication.

I took a loan of R1,000 for 3 months, with a total repayment of R1,575.84(Confirmed by Wonga via email).

I requested a settlement quote and was initially given a settlement amount of R1,254.89. After I made a payment of R1,000, I asked for another settlement and was told that the outstanding balance is now R254.89.

However, the system still shows a scheduled instalment of R575.84, which is confusing. If the outstanding balance has dropped significantly, it is unclear why the instalment amount hasn’t been recalculated. The system still indicates that I'm going to be charged R 575.84 for the next 3 months

Wonga has also not clearly confirmed in writing whether: • The settlement amount reflected on the system includes all interest and fees. • Paying the settlement will cancel all future debit orders • The debit scheduled for 26 January will be stopped

If the debit order goes through after I pay the settlement amount, I will have overpaid the loan. That is unacceptable and goes against the National Credit Act.

Despite following up multiple times, my emails are now being ignored, and I haven’t received written confirmation or a settlement letter. I am sharing this publicly since I cannot resolve the issue directly.

Thank-you for your review.

We are sorry to learn that you are not happy with our service and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

I note that you have received a settlement letter and response from our contact centre today.

The settlement amount on your letter includes all interest and fees applicable at the time of generating the letter and is valid for 5 days.

Should you settle, please do so at least 3 days before your debit order is due so that the system can successfully cancel the pending debit order.

Once your account is settled the status will change to closed and no additional debit orders will go off your account.

We hope this helps.

Thanks,
The Wonga Team
