W.O.M.A.G SUPPLIES INFERIOR QUALITY TILES
We purchased white and grey marble tiles from World of marble and granite ( WOMAG ) after viewing them in their show room for our house. Whilst the tiles where being been laid by the marble tiling contractor he brought it to our attention that the tiles had marks on them from from not being polished correctly. The tiles look sand blasted as if they have had heavy traffic on them and polish marks. We paid R912.00 per tile excluding laying of the tile and we are very disappointed in the finish of the tile and the response from Oren Sachs the Managing director who said they come from the factory like that and we must pay extra to do crystallization or grid and polished the tiles. After spending well over a R1000.00 per tile laid one must now pay a further R200 - R280 per m2 to have them polished so that they look like a new tile which is what we originally thought we had purchased from them in the first place.
I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING TILES FROM W.O.M.A.G. IN THE FUTURE AND WOULD LIKE TO WARN FUTURE CUSTOMERS TO MAKE SURE THE QUALITY OF THE TILES DELIVERED COMPARE TO THE TILES DISPLAYED IN THIER SHOW ROOMS. AS WE HAVE SPENT ALOT OF MONEY RENOVATING OUR HOUSE AND THE TILES LOOK OLD AND WORN NOT WHAT WE HAD BEEN EXPECTING WHEN PURCHASING THEM A TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT.

After receiving this complaint on HelloPeter, our MD suggested that another senior manager view your place in case he had missed something during his visit to you.
During my visit I had a look at the floor, which looks magnificent by the way. I started off by looking for the problem. I could not see anything until you asked me to bend over and look from a certain angle, at a certain distance, in a certain light to highlight the “imperfections” in the tiles. The “affected” area, by the way, is right under your dining table where chairs constantly move. Your chairs have no gliders under them and continuous use will damage the soft marble tile.
You mentioned that the floor looked like it was sandblasted. I felt the tiles for a rough surface. Alas, they were all polished and without any of the mechanical damage that occurs when a floor is sandblasted. The floor clearly does not look nor feel sandblasted.
You claimed that the floor seems to have had heavy foot traffic on them. It is as if you were intimating that these are “previously used” tiles. As an owner of a demolishing company you know full well that marble tiles that have been previously laid cannot be lifted and reused. I am not sure why you made this statement online but I want to stress here that it is impossible to remove and reuse tiles after they have been laid.
Natural stone such as marble is made from a variety of minerals, by nature, over millions of years. In our showrooms we have many signs telling the customers that “Natural stone such as marble etc. are subject to variations in colour, shade, veining and texture. The display indicates the general characteristics of the material.” It is this unpredictability which is the beauty and appeal of Marble and natural stone.
You pointed out to some speckles in the tile, again visible only at a certain angle and at a certain light. I can confirm that these are speckles which are under the polished section and, in fact, form part of the tile. They are not formed by some sort of mechanical damage as you claim.
You also pointed out two tiles which have a white vein running through them as a fault. I again used my finger to feel if there was a scratch. There was none! The tile is polished perfectly and these veins form part of the stone.
You mentioned that your tiling contractor had indicated, whilst tiling, that the tiles had marks on them from not being polished correctly. Why didn’t you stop him from using the tiles and lodge a complaint straight away? If there was an issue with the tiles, the tiler, who is known to us would have stopped immediately.
You mentioned that the tiles on display are different to what we supp****. Again, this claim is outrageous. Every time we get a new shipment of tiles we update our display to show the characteristics of the new batch. Each batch comes from different part of the quarry and as such will have different tonality and veining. We pride ourselves in our authenticity and showing a much wider display of tiles than any of our competitors.
Your complaints are misleading the public. The faults which you are complaining about form part of the material which is created naturally within the earth over millions of years. As experts in the industry with a stellar reputation we see no fault in the material. We invite you to ask any marble expert or our competitors to view the floor and they will agree – there is nothing wrong with the product.
We never want any of our customers to be unhappy. My goal in my visit was to offer you replacement tiles for the few tiles you were unhappy with even though there is nothing wrong with them. You indicated that you want us to pay for re-polishing of the entire floor. The floor is perfect as is. You cannot change the minerals making up the stone by polishing them. They will always be there.
I already know that this explanation will not placate you because you already went onto a radio station to complain about us in the middle of this resolution process. However, we want potential customers reading this review to understand that we take customer complaints very seriously. We make all efforts to try and resolve disputes. However, in this case there is absolutely nothing wrong with the tiles. The product provided is exactly as was displayed - an A grade beautiful and upmarket marble tile which will serve to enhance the value of your home.
