Disappointing Stay!
Worst experience at Windsmill Rest ever! On Friday, 31 December 2021, my aunt, cousin and I decided to spend New Year's Eve there. Prior to making a booking, their website mentioned something like no pets allowed. So we decided to book a room as we were happy with what we saw. Later on we arrived at the premises that's where things started going wrong. There was no one at the gate, and no matter how many times we buzzed the gate buzzer, no one seemed to have been there. We tried contacting their number found on their website and on the sign just outside their premises but our calls went straight to voicemail. After many failed attempts to get a hold of the property owner/ manager, we gave up and just thought maybe we were ****med. About 30 minutes later (we hadn't left as we were now searching for an alternative place to rest) were the gates finally opened. As soon as we parked and just about ready to go check in, we were met by puppies and a pitbull (a pitbull on the loose). This threw us off as we weren't expecting any pets also our fear of dogs.. Terrified as we were, we froze and called out to just about anyone to help us. Finally, a lady working there finally helped us and checked us into our room. Hours later after the New Year's Eve/Day celebration we got back to our room. After about 10 minutes, we heard a knock on our door. Firstly we didn't know anyone and secondly it was pretty late for anyone to be knocking so we didn't open for them. Instead my aunt asked who it was. We heard ****led male voices clearly telling that it was more than one man. We threatened to call the property manager/ owner but still the knock was persistent. We tried calling the number we saw but once again it took us straight to voicemail which was unacceptable. Our safety was now in question. 3 ladies alone, windows didn't have burglar gates which meant we had a restless night. In the morning, after a long sleepless night, we wanted to get ready for a shower. To our utter dismay, the shower tap when one tries to turn the knob, we experienced a really painful shock (a painful pull of the joints in our fingers). No one was looking forward to showering but had to as there were no other alternatives. Upon check out, the lady from the previous day was helping us with our check out. We shared with her our grievances especially about the people knocking at our door. She shared with us that management also seemed to be getting complaints and seemed to be having a problem with a caretaker and some guests there. As soon as she realized she overshared, she laughed but what se said next completely irked me and shocked me. She said and I quote, "Do you blame the people who were knocking, you three are absolutely gorgeous. No wonder there were men here knocking." That completely disgusted me and angered me. She made it seem like it's our fault this happened, our fault our safety was jeopardized, like we asked to look how we do. With the high GBV cases in SA, **** cases etc, we thought we'd be taken seriously but we weren't. So in other words, we deserve to be victims of GBV and harassment. I am appalled, I will never return to that place again!
