Why are there no health regulations in South Africa? The Wimpy could have ****ed me!

I actually love the Wimpy breakfasts, but last week my Mom and I went to the Wimpy at Clearwater Mall for lunch and I ordered a hashbrown and egg salad. We waited for a while for the food and when it came I ate one small hashbrown cube. I then called the waitress over and asked if the hashbrown had been fried with fish or seafood. She then came back and said yes it had been. I normally go to the Wimpy at Randpark Ridge and have always checked first before ordering anything as I am highly allergic to iodine (fish and seafood). I then told the waitress that I am highly allergic to fish and seafood and even by frying in the same oil, I can stop breathing. I was so ill from just having one small piece of hashbrown and it took me a few days to recover. Are there no health regulations in this country? Must there be a death before someone will actually do something? I am actually appalled how restaurants can just do what they like!
