Breach of Privacy and Misconduct by Wimpy Beacon Bay, East London

On Thursday, 2 October 2025, at approximately 12:40 p.m., I visited Wimpy Beacon Bay with my 10-year-old daughter. We used an FNB eBucks voucher and cash to have lunch at your Beacon Bay branch.

Our waitress, whose name tag read Zizipho, appeared fami****, prompting me to politely ask if we might know one another. She then asked if I was “Tamara,” mentioning that we had attended the same primary school around 2007. We had a brief, friendly chat about school and life. Her service was professional and courteous, and I left a cash tip in the bill folder as appreciation for her good service.

A few days later, on 6 October 2025, I was shocked to learn that I was being discussed publicly on Facebook in a demeaning manner. The post indirectly referenced me, but the employee herself confirmed my presence at your establishment and made disparaging remarks. Her public comments were as follows:

ZIZIPHO * “Ndilibone Friday landipha tip Enkulu espanà.” Translation: I saw her on Friday; she gave me a big tip at work.

HER FRIEND * “Akase funny xa ephisa ngemali.” Translation: It’s funny when she throws money around.

ZIZIPHO * “The was amadoda emva kwakhe and waye wandirecogniser waye funa lamadoda ngam.” Translation: There were men behind her, she recognised me, and she wanted those men through me.

These comments are entirely false and profoundly degrading. My visit occurred on Thursday, 2 October 2025, not Friday, and I was accompanied only by my 10-year-old daughter. At no point did I engage with, acknowledge, or even look at any men in the restaurant. In fact, when we arrived, the only person seated behind our table was an older white woman who left before our food even arrived. I chose that particular table because it gave me a clear view of the play area where my child was playing.

To suggest that a mother enjoying a meal with her child was “luring men” simply because she left a tip is misogynistic, slanderous, and deeply demeaning. It weaponises a moment of kindness into something vulgar and shameful, which says far more about the individual making the comment than about me as a customer.

This was not just unprofessional — it was a violation of privacy, dignity, and safety. Wimpy is a family restaurant, where parents should feel safe bringing their children without fear that staff will publicly discuss or distort their presence. The fact that a waitress took a private customer interaction and turned it into an online spectacle, attaching my name to a false and humiliating narrative, is deeply alarming.

As a mother, I find it disturbing that my 10-year-old daughter’s outing at a family restaurant was reduced to an adult-themed rumour online. This reflects not only a serious lapse in professionalism but also a complete disregard for customer confidentiality, especially involving a child.

If a simple meal shared between a mother and her daughter can be twisted into a public insult, it raises urgent questions about the respect, ethics, and boundaries maintained by staff within your establishment. Customers should never have to fear that their gestures of kindness — such as tipping a waitress — will later be used to publicly mock, ***ualise, or misrepresent them.

This experience has caused significant emotional distress, humiliation, and a loss of trust in what should be a safe, family-oriented environment. My dignity, privacy, and safety were compromised, and the tone of those comments was both ***ist and reckless.

No woman — and certainly no mother dining with her child — should ever have to endure such public ridicule after supporting a restaurant and its staff in good faith.
