PATHETIC CLUTCH JOB. And no attempt at customer satisfaction.
Having recently retired and planning on a long trip I took my Toyota Hi-Lux to Steenberg Motors for a new clutch. They kept my car for 5 days (first sign things were not going well) and gave it back to me with a terrible vibration. Obviously nobody checked the job on completion.
They quoted R8 000 for the job, and I could not take my car from the workshop until the bill of more than R13 000 was paid. This due to extra expense of balancing a dual mass flywheel.
When I complained about the vibration they kept the car for another 4 days (another red flag) and charged an additional R3 400 to rebalance the prop shaft. Total paid now at R16 500! (against a quote of R8 000)
The vibration was still there!
I took the vehicle to Toyota who diagnosed a bad clutch. Toyota replaced it entirely and charged R6 200. Job done in one day! And showed me it does not have a dual mass flywheel so nobody can explain the extra R5 000 for balancing.
Took 5 months of constant letters and calls (very few returned) and they gave me back the money spent at Toyota. So Steenberg Motors were paid over R10 000 for a job that was redone by Toyota, and I am R16 000 out of pocket for an R8 000 job.
Wouldn't recommend Steenberg to my worst enemy.
PS. If you ever take your vehicle to a workshop that has too many cars parked outside, this is not a sign that everything is going great!
If you test drove the vehicle then why did you not tell me about the vibration when I picked it up? And why, after you attempted to fix it by charging me to rebalance the propshaft did you not test drive it and check for vibration? The fact is you had no idea what was wrong, and kept charging me while you 'flailed' around looking for something, anything to blame but your shoddy workmanship.
The fact is you quoted me R8 000 for a clutch job and charged me R16 500 for unnecessary work and a clutch that had to be redone.
It took 5 months for you to refund me R6 200 spent at Toyota! why? ... call yourselves a reputable company? You should have done the right thing and refunded all the money I paid you, considering the job had to be redone.
