Poor quality furniture and returns policy. Know your rights
I purchased furniture from Cielo (Vancouver bed base, Vancouver bedside tables and Vancouver chest of drawers), delivered at the beginning of March. In April I reported several defects and advised them I wanted to return the furniture. They advised me that I had 48 hours to report defects from time of delivery and 14 days to return the furniture for refund. After numerous emails, they insisted on a technical visit, and then only inspected half the defective furniture. They finally agreed to a return, but would only issue a store credit, despite the Consumer Protection Act stating you can return defective furniture within 6 months of purchase. I then lodged a complaint with the Consumer Goods Council Ombudsman. Despite Wheco group being required to respond within 3 weeks, they took approximately 6 weeks, and continued stating their terms and conditions, which go against the CPA, as well as misrepresenting certain facts. I responded, advising this, and then 10 days later I get an email from Wheco Group advising me that they "reviewed" my query and decided to process my refund. Finally got my refund this week. It is important to know your rights and not let these big companies get away with breaking the CPA.
