Whale Rock Margate

Just a warning to those who utilise websites such as Booking.com looking for accommodation. We booked a unit at Whale Rock A Margate unit 1 through the site. Payment was deducted off my credit card and a booking confirmation was emailed to me. As the accommodation was a self catering unit it does not have a reception and therefore it was essential to contact the owner / property manager before arrival to advise what time our check in would be. However the only number provided was a fax line. When we arrived after a 8 hour drive with 3 kids in tow no one was at the property to let us in. We waited for anyone to arrive and no one pitched. With a 3 month old baby we had no alternative but to book elsewhere for the evening. When I was able to email Booking.com again they forwarded my email to the owner of this unit at Whale Rock and the owner named "Vanessa" rep**** saying she does apologize but we were a no show and therefore will not receive a refund. Bad service on behalf of Booking.com as they could have reversed the credit card payment. They have no idea about the properties they advertise and not even vital credentials are checked like a contact number. Booking.com has remained silent in the matter since.
