Exploitative Pricing, Appalling Communication, and Total Disregard for Safety
If I could give Westvaal Opel Menlyn zero stars, I would.
Getting hold of their service department is an exercise in pure frustration. Their automated phone system cut me off completely when selecting the workshop. Trying to reach them via the receptionist required holding for 10 to 15 minutes. The only saving grace was a staff member named Daniel, who was helpful enough to ensure my call was finally transferred.
Unfortunately, once connected to the service manager, the experience went completely downhill. I called as a concerned father after my daughter (a young pharmacist) was handed an outrageous quote of R6,000 to R7,000 for a basic minor service ****erally just oil and filters) on her Opel Adam. Instead of professional customer support, the service manager displayed an arrogant, dismissive attitude—essentially "take it or leave it." It felt like predatory behavior, taking advantage of a young woman who booked her car in in good faith.
To top off the ******ionate pricing and poor attitude, they failed at basic safety. The main reason we took the car in—a non-functioning left rear light cluster—was completely ignored and left unfixed because they "didn't have parts." They charged astronomical dealer prices for a standard oil change, sent an unsafe vehicle back onto the road, and treated us with complete contempt.
I will be attaching photos of the invoice to this review and logging a formal complaint with Opel South Africa. Opel is already a brand struggling for market share in this country, and dealer behavior like this will sink it completely. Save your money and take your car to a team that respects safety and its customers.
