Another Side by Side Fridge Water Leak
I have read on numerous consumer forums that many customers have experienced a leak or breakage of the water pipe at the pivot point where it enters the freezer door. Mine too has broken after 5 years. Electrolux, who have taken over Westinghouse, suggest that the cleaning material I use on my mop to clean the floor around the fridge has caused this pipe to fail. I disagree with this, as it is clear this pipe is placed under pressure with each opening of the freezer door, and as such I consider this a design fault. Their service agents however advise that the pipe is moulded into the freezer door, and the only way to return the fridge to its original spec is to replace the entire freezer door. Unfortunately these are only sold with the fridge door, resulting in a cost for the parts excluding fitment labour being $451. Using a slightly modified design, the pipe could have been joined at a cost of under $5. I view this as an additional patent flaw. Electrolux state very few of these fail as a ratio to total in use, and only the failures get reported on. I doubt this and would like to know the actual numbers as the fault is demonstrable on a repeat basis.
