Engine Failure Within Months & No Support From Weelee

I purchased a Renault Sandero from Weelee Centurion on 25 March 2025.

In December 2025, the vehicle suffered a complete engine failure and would not start. The official assessment confirmed catastrophic internal engine damage, including broken valves and damage to pistons and the cylinder head.

I submitted a warranty claim, and while a portion was approved (R30,000 for the engine and R2,000 for towing), I have been left with a shortfall of approximately R17,941, which I cannot afford.

My issue is not only the cost — but the complete lack of support from Weelee:

* The salesperson refuses to assist or provide guidance * I am constantly redirected to the warranty provider * No one at Weelee is taking responsibility or assisting in resolving the matter

As a customer, I believe this situation is unfair. A major engine failure within months of purchase raises serious concerns about the condition of the vehicle at the time of sale.

I request that Weelee:

1. Intervene directly with the warranty provider 2. Assist in resolving or covering the shortfall 3. Take accountability for after-sales support

At this stage, I am left with a non-operational vehicle and no assistance from the company I purchased it from.

This matter needs urgent attention.

Title: Weelee Refuses to Assist After Engine Failure – Hiding Behind 6-Month WarrantyFollowing my previous complaint, I was contacted by Jonathan Jenkins on 4 April 2026.During this call, I was clearly informed that Weelee will not assist me any further because the vehicle is now outside of the 6-month warranty period. This is despite the following facts:
  • The vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure within months of purchase
  • The failure was confirmed by an independent assessment (internal damage to valves, pistons, and cylinder head)
  • The warranty only partially covered the repair, leaving me with a shortfall of R17,941
  • I have received no meaningful assistance from Weelee throughout this process
Additionally:
  • There was absolutely no after-sales follow-up from Weelee after the purchase
  • The only communication I had was when I requested a radio PIN shortly after purchase
  • I am still not receiving feedback, despite being told the matter would be discussed with the warranty provider
It is unacceptable for a dealership to rely solely on a 6-month warranty and then refuse to assist a customer with a major mechanical failure that occurred shortly after purchase.Under the Consumer Protection Act, goods must be of good quality, durable, and fit for purpose. A complete engine failure within this timeframe raises serious concerns about the condition of the vehicle at the time of sale.I request that Weelee:
  1. Reconsider their position
  2. Assist in resolving the outstanding shortfall
  3. Take accountability for after-sales support
Failing this, I will have no choice but to escalate the matter to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA).
