*****ulent credit reports

So I received a call from a gentleman called Josh, he tells me about being over charged and all, I say to him I cleared my debts so I'm not interested. Then he says ok I'm going to confirm your info to make sure you don't receive such calls again and I clearly say Yes. Next thing I receive a text message saying I requested a credit report. Why would I work hard fixing my report then have a random company pull a report? For what do I need a report for?
