Embarrassed South African with 3 American guests
Very embarrassed South African with 3 American guests. Last month while in Cape Town and staying at The Portswood Hotel, their Concierge booked us on a sunset criuse. She was told that there was a bar on board. I was standing next to her while she was asking for all the info and heard the whole discussion. We paid cash and boarded the sail boat. The attendants on the boat smelled like they had been drinking when they asked us to sign an indemnity form. When I inquired about the bar we had been promised...they said they had no control over what we were told by their office. They then presented us with filthy plastic glasses that we really did not want to drink out of. The only available beverage was a pink champagne. There was not a water, sparkling water, coke, diet coke, beer or anything else available....all advertised on a board in the office. They were able to find a warm bottle of wine which we paid 250 rand for. When I called to complain a few days after my guests left, I spoke with Lesley. He basically accused me and the concierge of lying. The hotel has been informed and will no longer be recommending this company. I was told that they would look into the issues and get back to me. Nobody did. I called back 3 days later and was told that neither the director or the food amd beverage person had been in for 3 days. Perhaps therein lies the problem. I was called back by the boat captain He also told me I was lying and did not appreciate being threatened with social media. He said it did not scare him. Please make sure NEVER TO USE WATERFRONT CHARTERS ....you do not get what you paid for. I see others feel the same way from their complaints. That was truly NOT a proud South African moment.
