Very poor quality of watches

My boyfriend bought a fossil gold plated watch from them not long ago and few days later the gold peeled off,he called and they told him it's his fault because he works on an office desk so because the watch touches the desk it's what caused the scratches🥴🙄how dumb is that? And they told him to buy a new strap?? After literally a day or two of wearing watch? It looks very dull and ****, I'm very convinced it's not real
