Care or Control?
I have just been rejected for an adoption because I took exception to the fact that Woodrock says they retain ownership of the dog, i.e. not adoption but fostering. All our dogs live inside and always have, sleeping in either our beds or their own and they have a very large and completely enclosed garden which they can run around to their heart's content, and more love than they know what to do with, however Woodrock don't know that and, it appears, don't care. More important to be right than righteous. Because I want to adopt the dog and not foster her, and because I don't intend to sterilise my dachshund boy, they never took the time to find out anything more about me. I asked a question after they had rejected my application and it was ignored. When I first called and asked about the dog I was interested in, the first woman I spoke to didn't even know they had a dog by that name, Fatty (not fat at all), because she's a little depressed dog that lives under a bed in her kennel all day, so obviously she just gets fed and watered and forgotten. Poor little thing has lived all her 6 years in a kennel and will probably die there.
Thank you for your review, however there seems to be a miscommunication regarding our adoption policy. All our dogs are up for adoption, once you have adopted we register the microchip in your name and you take full ownership and responsibility of the animal. Should you however fail to comply with our general rules of adoption, then Woodrock has the legal right to take back possession. I would also like to assure you that none of our dogs are just fed, watered and forgotten ! Each and every dog is interacted with on a daily basis. We have a huge volunteer programme and Woodrock warrior programme and these people come every Saturday and Sunday and spend hours grooming, bathing, walking and loving every dog. We have behaviourists on the property who assess and ensure the physical and mental well being of our dogs on a daily basis.Fatty has been happily homed and living the high life in Sandton.
