Looking tired and not modern caravan friendly
We stayed recently at the Wagon Wheels Country Lodge. This being another occasion for us to stay at this establishment. Wagon Wheels caters for rooms, self-catering, backpackers and caravan stay. Being in transit from Colesberg to Cape Town, this was a convenient location to stop with our new caravan. Check-in was reasonable flawless. Though I had to make a call to the establishment, whilst standing in reception, to get someone to be able to check-in. Once check-in was done, we proceeded to the caravan park, located behind the buildings. One has to drive between two blocks of accommodation to get to it. However, we were soon stopped by a vehicle blocking access and had to request the owner to kindly move the vehicle so we could go to the camping ground. Upon arrival at the camping ground, we soon enough noticed that the camping sites are not modern caravan friendly. Having a caravan that is 7.5m long by 2.4m wide and 2.6m high, it posed a challenge to park for an overnight. The sites are not level, the trees haven't seen a pruning in a long time. The grounds look as if no-one really cares. There is an electric point, but no water point (thank goodness, we were travelling with water onboard, for just such an issue). We managed to make ourselves comfortable and had keys for the Kitchen and the Ablutions, which were clean and tidy. We took a walk around the Lodge's grounds and it is sad to see that the grounds are not being maintained properly, the buildings need attention. I am willing to overlook the area where the trucks and busses have to park, due to the past weeks wet weather. As this was a muddy affair. Although we had a very pleasant and must say very quiet evening stay: the camping ground could really use some modernisation and the access to the camping ground could definitely be improved, with a more direct access. Instead of having to manoeuvre between buildings and cars. As one will get blocked in with no exit possible, if cars are double parked.
