Terrible after sales service from Mosselbay, Tavcor George and Volkswagen South Africa
I bought a brand new Volkswagen TRoc in July 2024 from Mosselbay Volkswagen.I paid cash for the vehicle .The vehicle had a lot of electrical and faulty sensors issues. The dealership had the vehicle with them for around 3.5 months and could not fix the issue. I was told that they were waiting for a reply from Germany. When I told them i wasn’t happy with this and that I wanted a new vehicle they told me that if i started a dispute with VW SA it could take up to four months to resolve. They suggested that i should consider trading the problematic vehicle in on another TRock. We agreed on an amount that I had to pay in,R48 000.00, and they got me a new TRock, same spec and color. I took delivery of this vehicle 2 January 2025. Within the first 200 kms the vehicle had similar issues. Sensors telling me the cars gearbox oil is overheating in orange and red, and a variety of what I consider to be faulty sensor errors. I took the vehicle back to them and they ran a full diagnostics on it. I was told there’s nothing wrong with the car. Since my daughter was going to drive this vehicle and studying in Cape Town i was not prepared to take the risk of her getting stuck with this car. I then took it to Tavcor in George. I explained my situation to the workshop manager and he suggested that we do the diagnostics again. Afterwards they advised me that this vehicle had a lot of issues and that they couldn’t fix it and had to send their findings to Germany to review. I was introduced to a employee of Volkswagen South Africa. He admitted that there were issues with the car and took it upon himself to sort it out for me. He undertook to have this issue resolved within ten days. I phoned him on the tenth day and he asked me to bring the vehicle in to Tavcor the following day. They had the car with them most of the day and I was called in for a meeting later that day. On arrival the friendly person was now very hostile and told me there’s nothing wrong with the car. My daughter should take it and drive it. I took the car and my daughter drove it back to Mosselbay. As we were driving home the vehicle again gave us a warning about gearbox oil overheating. I took pictures and sent it to the chap from VW SA and his response was”There is nothing wrong with the car. The only thing wrong is your daughter very aggressive driving style” I was shocked at his response. About 10 days later I got a call from the technician that ran the diagnosis. He asked me to bring the vehicle in to the workshop urgently. I told him I sold the vehicle, with less than 2500 kms on the clock, and that I wouldn’t be bringing the car in. He then asked me who I sold the car to as he urgently needed the vehicle back as it wasn’t safe to drive. I asked him to go to his workshop manager and to send me a email explaining why there was now such a urgency getting the car back. I never got that mail. I am just upset at how these issues were handled by Volkswagen Mosselbay, the worst dealership in the country, and the workshop at Tavcor and Volkswagen SA. The after sales service was a shocker. I will never drive a Volkswagen ever again!
