Vvm unpaid tv license

Please help with clarity I took a smart tv via a furniture shop and paid for TV license so unfortunately I work ended I couldn't pay the TV license any more, and I been telling the debt collection company that am currently unemployed. So today I an sms from my previous employer showing that the company has send her an sms but in my name so am wondering are they allowed to send such sms to my previous employer
