POPI(A) Violation

This company is not POPI(A) compliant. When I asked the lady why they phoned me, because it's not in compliance with the POPI(A) act, she immediately said "we are compliant" and stopped the conversation, without allowing me to say anything else.

I then received an SMS, stating the following: Good day. Vuka works with reputable providers. We are data and POPIA compliant and store all information securely. For more info, email ***ne

The POPI(A) act is not only about processing information but also about obtaining the information. The mere fact that I received this SMS is a violation as well because I never gave them my number, nor did I contact them before. My information was sold to them by someone.

The new POPI(A) act was designed to combat this. Someone should start implementing it against these kinds of companies.
