No to Volvo

Upon retirement, I'd got a "savings bonus" from my insurer. Great news. I decided to buy a "good” car, Volvo V40 Excel Manual 2014. Wasn't it great? Judge for yourselves. After driving this car for a year and suffering pain in my left hip. I'd found the source of it, or so I thought. The drivers seat frame was cracked and asckew to the left. The seat was replaced, by Volvo dealer, but the pain persisted. Then I looked at the clutch and break pedals. Pedals were small compared to other cars I'd driven, and so close together that I had to place my legs at an angle to push them. I decided to contact Volvo dealers to trade in my manual car, at this stage one year old car, for an automatic. Dealers offered me automatic Volvo cars. I just had to add between R100,000 and R 150,000. I could not afford it. I asked them why is the Trade-in Value was so low. Their reply was that the bottom panels (Narrow plastic strips) were scratched. I decided, to call Volvo SA. The answer I'd received was that the pedals location met the specs and that dealers decide their trade-in prices. Dead End. I, decided to repair the scratches to get a better trade-in value. To make sure that I do not loose the warranty, I turned to the list of approved by Volvo SA (The list is still available on their site). Choosing one of them who were not far from home, I had to wait instead of promised one week for two weeks. When I came to pick up my car the panelbeaters “forgot” to paint one of the panels. Another week to wait. I drove the car for some months longer. The hip pain was still there. I'd decided to dump Volvo in favour of another car. When I visited the dealers, they indicated to me that my Volvo car, instead of being painted in full, as it should had by the "recommended panel beaters”, only the lower part of the car was painted. Although, it needed to be repainted in full. I traded this excuse for perambulation for a "simple" vehicle, and took a significant loss. Sounds bad? Doesn't it? Not to me. No, I am blissfully happy to drive a brand new "simple” car with almost all features my Volvo car had, and, to rid myself of further head aches and hip aches. P.S . When I look at the Volvo reviews on Hello Peter site, I realise how lucky I am.
