Massey Ferguson Bearing put in a Bentley

Supposedly a specialist in servicing British cars.

I took my 1970 Bentley T1 to Viv's and he serviced it for a number of years. I always had doubts as the car (and others I took) always had to go back for corrective work. Better the devil I know I reasoned especially as there are so few decent mechanics. While in Viv's ''care'' a ***** went thru the motor (thru the Head, into a cylinder). The ***** in question was subsequently identified as a tappet cover *****. I presume a tappet cover was removed and when replacing care was not taken that all the *****s were present and accounted for and one had fallen in and...the rest is history. That resulted in an engine rebuild. After the rebuild the engine suffered what was termed catastrophic failure. Stripped again, it was found that the bearings used in the previous rebuild (By Viv) were...Massey Fergusson bearings. Kid you not. The tolerances were different - needless to say (instead of less than 1/10 of a mm they were more than 1 mm. Two pistons were starved of oil resulting in seizure, hole in the block etc etc

I have no idea how a mechanic of any ability could even contemplate putting Massey Ferguson bearings into a Bentley.

so, Viv's Motors cost me 2 engine rebuilds.
