Star — Loyal Customer, Betrayed at the Time I Needed Them Most

I have been a Guardian Insurance policyholder for 2 years and 7 months, paying my premiums faithfully every single month without ever submitting a single claim. I trusted that this loyalty would count for something when I actually needed my policy to work for me. I was wrong. I recently lost my cellphone. It was not taken from me at gunpoint or through any force — it was simply lost. Because it did not meet their definition of "theft," Guardian Insurance refused to pay out my claim entirely, despite my clean record and years of consistent payments. There was no goodwill, no benefit of the doubt, no acknowledgment of my loyalty as a customer. Just a flat refusal based on a technicality between "loss" and "theft" that left me completely unprotected in the one moment I needed my policy to actually work. This is exactly the kind of experience that makes people distrust the insurance industry. You pay for years, you never cause a problem, and the one time you need them to honor their end of the agreement, they hide behind fine print and semantics to avoid paying. If this is how Guardian treats a loyal, claim-free customer over something as simple as a lost phone, I can only imagine how they treat customers with bigger, more complicated claims. I would strongly encourage anyone considering Guardian Insurance to read their policy wording carefully — especially the distinction between "loss" and "theft" — before assuming you're covered. A policy is only as good as the company's willingness to actually pay when it matters.

I took a cellphone insurance with Viva Cover through Huawei for 3 years paying R158 per month

I took a cellphone insurance with Viva Cover through Huawei for 3 years paying R158 per month. I lost my cellphone while we were forced by taxi drivers to alight from another taxi since it took us from a hiking spot. The insurance took 23 days assessing the claim that was later rejected saying that I failed to safeguard the device.
