Subscribing without my permission
Good day
I got a call towards the end of July from, who I thought was Reddata, telling me that because I have had my cell phone number for so long that they will be giving me extra data for it. Then the lady behind the phone went on to tell me about a lot of other things like medical aid or life insurance, but she was speaking so fast I could barely hear what she was saying.
I couldn't even clearly hear what company she was calling from.
At the end of the phone conversation she asked me if she could send me an email about all the things she has just spoke about. I was busy saying "yes you can so that I can go through it before I agree to anything" but she cut me off and said bye and hung up before I could get my word in. She didn't give me any time to ask any questions or anything.
On the 27th of July I got a few smses telling me I'm subscribed to services including hotspotter, halo and life aid. I called hotspotter and they directed me to Reddata, so I called Reddata to find out what's going on. They told me I had been subscribed to 7 different services that I would be paying for individually.
I asked to be cancelled from all of them immediately as I had not given permission for any of it.
Not everything was cancelled. I received a debit on my account of R119 for My Life. One at the end of July and one at the end of August. So that's R238 plus R17 for transaction charges. I managed to cancel a service from Safe Aid and get refunded from them of R150, but not the R8. 50 transaction charge. So that brings a total of R263. 50 owed to me.and thats not including airtime for me having to call around to find out what is happening.
The company for My Life, or Life Aid, said that they will need to investigate before they can refund me. So I'm still waiting for that.
Trying to find out what company signed me up for all these services is a headache. Most places say it was Reddata. Reddata said it was hotspotter. Hotspotter said it was viva life the next time I called them, which makes sense because all the reference numbers start with VLM. I called viva life and they say it wasn't them. But I was apparently signed up by a lady named Elaine Faraah.
I would like all my money refunded to me and for Elaine to call me and apologise personally for creating such inconvenience.
Regards David
