Paid for a service that was never rendered centurion

Paid for services not rendered and **** to by Doctor about his s****s and expertise.

I walked into the Store based at Centurion Mall last week Sunday and I asked the 2 receptionists sitting at the front desk if they specialize in HARD contact lenses and if they did how much a full Consultation and fitting for the lenses would be? One of the ladies asked me to wait a moment while she confirmed with the doctor and also confirms the prices. After confirming, she flipped through some book and I was then quoted R902 or R920 for a full consultation for a HARD contact lense fitting and was provided with documentation to fill out.

Shortly afterwards the male Opthelmologist came to fetch me for my tests. We walked into the consultation room and I informed him that I have a condition known as Keratoconus where the cornea shape/positioning is a problem etc and have worn hard contact lenses since 2010 and I had a cross linking procedure done just over two years ago in June 2016 and haven't done a fitting for new HARD lenses since then and that was the purpose of my visit. He Indicated that he was fami**** with the condition and procedure.

I then asked if it was possible for one's vision to improve after a cross linking procedure and he said yes. However we would need to do the necessary eye tests to confirm. I was expecting all the extensive tests that I'm used to with all the giant eye ball pictures etc topography tests I think it's called... but, we did the test and it was just a standard eye test...

He then mentioned that my eyes aren't too bad and were within the range of SOFT contact Lenses meaning there would have been an improvement in my condition and I didn't really need to go the hard lenses route unless if it was really really bad which he then mentioned that my eyes weren't too bad. I was puzzled because I know nothing about soft lenses except that for almost a decade I've been told my numerous opthelmologists that glasses and soft lenses would never really work for me. He then encouraged me to come back for a full work up, tests and fitting and free one week lense trial for soft lenses. I was excited because he said it was a cheaper option than hard lenses and would definitely work. He then mentioned that they do tests for hard lenses but their equipment wasn't really up to date and efficient and in my case it wasn't necessary so we should go ahead with the soft lenses instead because in his opinion that was best. I kept asking if he was sure and he then mentioned to me that it would definitely work because given my condition, the prescription was within the range of soft lenses. I know nothing about soft lenses so I took the experts advise as a specialist in the field. I was still a bit sceptical so he said to me that he knew a team based In Brooklyn where he worked when he was a student and he could refer me to them but they have up to a one month waiting period (I was basically coersed into trying the soft lenses--wait 1 month or one week)

He asked the lady at the reception if they had a soft lense trial or testing kit and she indicated that they didn't. He then said to me that It would take a week till they get stock soI'd have to wait and come back for fittings etc later on.

Now time to pay. He says to the receptionist to bill me R90 for the "eye test" and R345 for the lense fitting, sizing and testing in a week's time. I was then asked to only pay the R345 because I was given a family discount... Not sure what that means or why.. I asked for an invoice twice but was told I can get it when I come back.

I got an sms that the free trial pack was had arrived. I took the day off today (Friday) and went to the store for my tests and fittings as discussed the week before. I get there and give the lady my surname and she pulls up a box and hands me a pack of lenses. I was confused because I paid R345 for testing, fitting and sizing like I was told. She just said to me here you go. I looked at her, confused and asked about the fitting and measurement tests etc. Then she asked if I had the solution and I told her I am here for my tests I don't know anything about soft lenses. Then she just said-you can just buy the solution and go. I was outraged because I didn't understand what the R345 I paid was for if there were to be no tests, measurements and sizing to be done. I then demanded a refund because I was told the trial is free and I only pay for the tests so if there were to be I fittings and measurements what did I pay for. She asked if I set an appointment and I was so confused because I was told to just come back when I get the sms to do my fittings and measurements.

She asked me to take a seat because I was furious. The male doctor then came out and we went Into the consultation room and he asks me to wash my hands then he hands me the lenses to put them in and went back to his phone. DURING A PAID CONSULTATION!

At this point I was really frustrated. I just opened the case and started trying to put them in. I was struggling so he asked me to take a seat and he'd do it himself. I asked him how he would know if the measurement is fine for my eyes given my condition regarding the cornea. He Just said to me the soft lenses are a standard fit. I was really confused at this point and asked him again what the R 345 I paid was for if there is not tests to co. FIM the sizing and measurements since I have keratoconus. He just ignored the question and kept on trying to put the lenses in and it was very difficult he then said to me "ooo your eyes are very small and won't open wide enough. This definitely won't work". We continued trying and Once they were in I could barely open my eyes and when I did the vision was so blurred I didn't understand what he meant by there's no tests or measurements to be done. He never said anything to me last week about this. He proceeded to look at my eyes through the lenses and asked me to look at some red light. Then he said. "yeah, I figured, soft lenses are not gonna work for you. Your cornea is bent and the lense won't sit flat. I don't really like to do hard lenses because it's not my specialty very few people specialize in that. Let me give you the contact details for the top specialist I know and you can go see them.

I was very angry and I said to him I asked if you specialize in hard lenses and you said yes and I was even quoted for it. How can you tellbMe you don't know anything now that I have paid and I'm Walking out and no service has been rendered.

The only test I did was a standard eye test for R90 and no testing was done for the R345 so why did I pay R345? I never asked for a standard eye test either because I'm well aware of my condition that's why I expressly asked when walked In The first time. I asked for extenaive tests to be done and I was told that's what I'd get but that was not the case. I want a refund. You can not lie to a client that has paid. It's not a lot of money but it's the principle that matters.

They should have been honest and let me to when I walked into the shop and asked if they specifically specialize In cases like mine.
