It's more pleasant going blind slowly than going to Vision Works.
Optometrist at Mall of Africa was 30m late for the 0930 appt. When the recept. phoned her she refused to give an estimate of when she would be there and I was told that I simply had to wait because she could come in the next five minutes or the next 2 hours.
When she did arrive, she didn't offer any apology for being late, until I asked her about it, at which point she berated me for asking. She made it very clear that even though I was going to be paying cash for their overpriced services, she was doing me a favour by even pitching up at all.
I said "I don't want to talk about it, I just want the test". We did the first half of the test, all the way through she kept berating me for asking about why she did not provide an estimate for how late she'd be.
During the seconed half of the test, I told her *again* that I simply want the test, I don't want to talk about it, at which point she said she doesn't want to serve me anyway, because I asked her about being late.
Eventually, I left Vision works at 1020, after arriving there before 0930, WITHOUT EVEN GETTING A TEST.
She was rude, continually harassed me because I said I don't want to hear what she has to say I just want the test. Apparently the owner is Bilal, and he doesn't care about the fact that his employees come in at 1000 each Saturday.
The staff made it clear that this happens all the time, and that customers should be grateful for the service.
I will never go back to a Vision Works again; this is the first time in my 46 years on the planet that a retailer literally said they don't want my money unless I take their harassment.
Look through all the Vision Works complaints about the Mall of Africa here - it's clear that the head office themselves don't care about service, nor about their staff refusing to serve customers unless those customers are willing to take some verbal abuse.
