Virgin Active Waterstone Village – Member Etiquette Needs Attention

I’ve been increasingly frustrated with the inconsiderate behavior of some members at the Virgin Active gym in Waterstone Village, Somerset West. A common and unfortunate scene is gym-goers sitting on equipment, fully occupied with their phones, while others are forced to stand and wait for the machine to become available.

It’s not a matter of a short pause between sets — it’s prolonged, distracted use of phones with no awareness of others waiting. This kind of behavior shows a lack of basic gym etiquette and respect for fellow members.

I believe Virgin Active should take a more active role in educating members about proper equipment use and shared space courtesy. Whether through signage, staff reminders, or digital communication, it’s important to remind people that gym equipment is for training, not texting.

Everyone pays to be there, and a little consideration goes a long way in creating a space that works for all.
