Virgin Active Waterstone Village Deteriorating Experience

This review is in regards to the Waterstone Virgin Active at Waterstone Village Somerset West. I have been a member of this gym since it’s opening. It was known as a flagship facility and I have really enjoyed going there. But unfortunately it’s service to it’s clients have deteriorated so over the years that it really is no longer a pleasant experience going there. I train pretty much every day as I take my training seriously. In 2022 I was part of the WFF SA team and represented my country at World Championships in Indonesia. So I’m a dedicated athlete and my training is important to me.

I’ve had numerous talks with the current manager about conditions at the gym and how rules simply aren’t being adhered to by other members and how the club fails to enforce the rules. To the extent that I have now decided to write a review about it in the hope that something will be done about it.

Yesterday I counted 15 backpacks on the gym floor during the 45mins I spent there. And this is an everyday occurrence. The rules clearly state that bags are not allowed on the gym floor and that it’s a health and safety violation. In the bathrooms there are ampule lockers belongings can be stored and locked away. But this is not adhered to and it’s a slackness on the part of management to enforce this rule.

Another thing is, many members simply don’t put away weights after use. The gym is a mess. I often need to take weights off a machine so I can start my workout. While the rules state that members should put away the weights after use. Management doesn’t enforce this.

Then there’s the dress code. I have noted members training with flip flops on while the rules state that proper closed training shoes must be worn.

So in general,, management is really slipping up and simply not paying attention to how things are deteriorating at the club.

My hope in writing about these issues is that things will improve, so that everyone will enjoy the facility and what it has to offer. It’s only fair as we all pay to use the facility.
