Virgin active unfair practices

i have been paying my installements for Virgin active in Parklands , but now after the contract expired , i did not renew it but they kept on deducting me , some people called me , and i have informed them since a year ago that i will not be able to come for the gym , up until now they are now saying i have a bill of over R1000 , i am not sure why they have not cancelled my contract
