Virgin Active Membership Cancellation

Virgin Active is quick to take your money but just try and cancel a membership and see how long it takes them. I cancelled my membership in April and was informed that the debit order for May would still go through because they need a month's notice. When the debit order still went through in June and I enquired, they informed me that my membership was still active and wasn't cancelled. When I challenged them I was informed that I had to speak to a manager but they couldn't help me because it was 16h40 and the managers went home at 16h30 although their website says the call center operates until 18h00. They then put the phone down on me.
