Virgin Active **** and stole my money

At the start of November 2018 I joined Virgin Active on my own for the first time, before that I was always a dependent under my parents' account. I was told that if I sign up in November, they have a promo running where you only pay R799 joining fee (instead of around R2000) and you get December free. I am a student with a low income job, but fitness is very important to me so I was over the moon to get that kind of discount and I signed up immediately. I am not always in the same town so Virgin Active was my only option as a gym. 1 December came around and guess what - the debit order went off for R397. For a student budget that is a lot of money if you had not budgeted for it. I contacted my home club on the 3rd of December and waited. 2-3 weeks later they asked me for a bank statement to prove it went off, which I provided. And I waited. A week later when I contacted them again they said the bank statement of December was not enough, they needed one that dated back to even before I signed up. And I waited. Eventually the sales manager at my home club sat down with me and phoned head office. They told me that I had not qualified for the promo because a year ago my parents got a discount on my membership. The sales managers of the different clubs go for training prior to all promos where they get a sheet of T's & C's that all sales staff have to sign off. Nowhere in those T's & C's does it say ANYTHING about not qualifying for promos because of past promos. All head office had to say was that they have their own T'c & C's. So the people selling you the promo are not even aware of the rules. So yes, I still got the discount on the joining fee, but they took my money without my consent and are refusing to give it back. And thanks to technology and us signing our contracts electronically when we sign up, head office has our signatures on whatever T's & C's they decide to implement.
