Virgin Active January Promo to join Vitality

My name is Pamella. In January 2017 I cancelled my old V&A membership because I now wanted to join Vitality and I was advised by the saleman at V&A that I needed to pay a joining fee of R1 785 and I can qualify up to 50% discount of the membership fee of which I did. I was also told that I will get a cash back of R500 on 25 February 2017. A week ago I received a call from V&A saying that a debit order of R370 for February did not go through, I was shocked because there was money in my account and I subsequently paid cash the same day I received the call at the gym. This morning I called the V&A callcentre to enquire about the R500 cash back refund that I was promised in January, to my suprise, I was told that I no longer qualify for the cash back as my debit order for February did not go through. This upsets me because they chose not to debit my account intentinally so that I forfeit the cash back, I even took the trouble and went to the bank to enquire about an unpaid debit order to which they were also suprised because there were funds in my account and they were never instructed by V&A to debit my account.

My take in this is that they probably ******* many members by not debiting our accounts in February so that we do not qualify for the cashback. My question is why would they even offer this cash back instead of saying we must just pay R1300 from the onset?

Regards
