Virgin active *****

I joined virgin active the end of 2019. I fell into hard times and was instructed to write a letter the cancel my membership.. I just now am in a comfortable position to rejoin the gym. I get told I owe over R4000. How is that even possible. Considering my membership wad off peak and just over R200 membership fee. That would mean 200% increase.. What about prescription law, not to mention. Who do I go to get help?
