Unjustified Enrichment
On the 13th of October 2014 I signed a two-year gym contract with Virgin Active. My mom (who was with me at the Tygervalley branch) payed with her card for the first year so I had to give my debit order details to pay for the second year. The amount I signed for was more or less R450.
One morning (as per usual) I wanted to go for a workout but the front desk operator denied me access, saying that the system doesn't allow me to enter anymore. I asked her if she could see what the reason was for this. She asked me on which contract I was on, on which I then responded a two year one that they were running at a special price for under R500. She then said well that explains it. My contract has obviously expired. I went home and cut my membership card in half and threw it away as I sadly knew I won't be able to afford another gym contract.
Having two toddlers, a full-time job and doing life as any other overworked mom, I hardly have time for sitting down to eat a meal so checking my savings account bank statements happens occasionally as I know only my debit orders go off on that side. I do all purchases with my credit card and receive text messages with the balance. But: last week I decided to look into my accounts and saw an amount of R655 for Virgin Active went off on the 23rd of each month! And a Transaction fee of R8.57... I almost got a heart attack!! Immediately phoned Virgin Active and the lady said it is called "Automatic Renewal"! Whaaat!!
Thousands of rands have been ****** from me since the end of 2016! AND the amount which I signed for was NOT R655!
