Unhappy Virgin Active member
Virgin Active is complete disappointment, I have a 12 month contract, due to unforeseen circumstance I can no longer afford the instalment. I called to enquire on cancelling the contract I was then told I will need to pay 40% cancellation fee , I then asked if I could freeze the membership until such time as finances change, I was then notified that they cannot freeze due to 10% discount I receive from my medical, I then contact my medical aid to enquire about the discount which is of no extra cost to me and it was explained that the medical aid offers this discount totally free to all members so there should be no reason for the gym to not freeze my membership as this is not an extra, I called the gym call centre back explained everything but still no help, I cannot pay this instalment anymore and I am not using the services either... Section 14 of The Consumer Protection Act stipulates that fixed term agreements are contracts of a definite duration. Cellular phone contracts, gym contracts, lease agreements, armed response / security contracts, educational institution contracts are all examples of fixed term agreements. .A consumer may cancel an agreement before the agreed expiry date by giving the supplier 20 business days written notice. No reasons for the cancellation are required , Someone from the head office needs to contact me because I will put a stop order on this! All I am asking for is assistance because there is no hassle when they need to debit my account for the fee :(
