Unable to cancel my Virgin Active Account without even signing any contract.

I was a student attending at Varsity College Sandton and I would regularly walk to the Varsity.

And so 2 months ago, a Sales lady from Virgin Active Sandton Lonehill approached me to join Virgin Active Gym and I did without signing any papers and I even gave her R50 for the Virgin Active Sports Bag. I told her I would give her all my details via WhatsApp as I was late for my lecture.

I gave her my details including my bank account details via WhatsApp. So ever since I 'joined' I haven't gone to the gym once and they have already debited twice from my account.

I went to the Virgin Active Braam branch to cancel but some other Lady said I cannot cancel without paying 40% of the full amount which is around R1400. She said I cannot cancel because I 'signed' a contract and that I should consult the Virgin Active Sandton Lonehill branch since I 'signed' up with them.

I've been unable to cancel my Virgin Active and I believe it's unfair because I did not sign any contract binding me to anything. Not one signature did I put forward. I was not bound by any contract.

So unfair !
