The expensive 8 month Virgin Active Vitality Farce
I joined Virgin Active through Vitality in July 2018 with memberships for myself as well as my 2 kids. I asked for my account to be debited for all 3 contracts. The initial amounts came off. Then the call center started calling me several times a day to say a debit order hadn't come off. I'd go into the gym and pay it. Then another call, same month, a debit order didn't go off. They could never quite manage to tell me the money I owed for all 3 of us, they kept making different calls. I tried several times to sort out this debit order issue (the ONLY debit order that apparently wasn't coming off amongst 12 others that run smoothly). Eventually the amount seemed exorbitant. Ah, they CANCEL the memberships, then charge me to reinstate them. After querying 2 debit orders totaling R2000 over 2 months I went into te gym and asked them how it was possible that for a membership of 8 months I had paid almost R5000 cumulatively? But they couldn't understand the finances either - so made me call the ever horrific call center. They in turn explained, they could not debit my account and I owed them R150 (I stopped asking for who/what). But they had not only managed to debit my account the previous month, they had overcharged me R600. But I still owed them R150 I was told and to crown it all? They had once again cancelled my membership and if I wanted to go to gym I had to pay a joining fee again! I gave up. Thousands and thousands of Rands later, I just left it cancelled. Sadly, I miss the gym. The kids and I loved it. But the call center and finance department were so ********** I actually had no choice but to call it a day. Or Virgin Active would LITERALLY have ****** me blind.
