Terrible Customer Service when attempting to sign up at Virgin Active

I visited the Virgin Active Bryanston on 21/12/18 with the intention of having a look around the gym, visiting the gym to speak with a consultant and possibly signing up with a contract if I was happy. I was told that I needed to pay R 280 to enter the gym because of theft problems they were experiencing. Then I was told to complete a form requesting personal information including my ID no etc without a gym sales consultant even engaging with me. I was visiting with a colleague who is a member of the gym who vouched for me as well. At no time during this process did anyone call a sales consultant to speak to me even though I kept saying that I was interested in looking around the gym and I wanted to do this because I wanted to sign up. The assistant manager then came through and was very flippant and told me that if I didn’t provide my ID number then I should leave. I told him that I did not want to provide my ID number at that stage before discussing a contract etc but I had provided my name, email address and cellphone number. At the point where I asked him if this is what customer service is , where you just tell me to leave if I don’t want to complete my ID number on a form which did not make sense at that point , did he then say it was a misunderstanding and we did not understand what he was saying . Two of us could not misunderstand how he treated us and that I was not welcomed into the gym as a potential customer signing up, I was not offered to be engaged with by a sales consultant and neither was I treated with respect or politely. I was very keen to sign up a National / Collection membership before the end of the year but now after this experience at Virgin Active Bryanston, I do not know whether I should - if this is what customer service is like at Virgin Active gyms. I would appreciate someone getting back very timeously.
