SHOCKING TREATMENT OF CLIENTS

My son signed a 2 year membership with Virgin Active, to which I signed as the payer. He moved out of the country after approximately 6 months into the contract. In terms of the Consumer Protection Act, a reasonable cancellation fee (penalty) may be charged for early cancellation. I gave a 2 months notice period to Virgin Active as my son was no longer utilizing the membership and I considered 2 months penalty as fair and reasonable. Virgin Active refused to accept it, they imposed a 40% of the remainder of the contract penalty. The matter has been referred to the Consumer Protection Tribunal, for the Ombudsman to define "reasonable". I find out yesterday that Virgin Active has put my name on ITC. I am an existing member of Virgin Active, and my current membership is paid religiously every month. It is absolutely shocking how they treat an existing customer & considering the fact that the "reasonable" cancellation fee is being disputed. I have demanded that they remove my name from ITC, to which they respond that I must pay the cancellation fee. I have paid a cancellation fee, the two months notice!
