Rules for lifting

Virgin Active HATFIELD

I was told that I’m not allowed to deadlift 250kg because it’s now powerlifting and the gym is considered at Health Club.

I performed the my sets after agreeing to do the exercise on mats. Please keep in mind I was doing the exercise already in a designated deadlift area and on a board/block/floor.

On my last set for a maximum of 250kg I see 2 men in black shirts which I’m assuming now is the manager and I believe the other was maintaince staff.

The conversation basically concluded that what I’m doing is powerlift, I CANT DO THAT SPECIFIC WEIGHT IN THE GYM and they are trying to prevent a possible noise complaint.

This was done at off peak between 10-11am at Possible one of the biggest student filled Virgin Active gyms. No one at any point complained but rather congratulated and gave compliments.

I’m equally frustrated to hear that no other gym allows this yet for fact Menlyn Gym and Bedfordview have powerlifters how do more than the weight I’ve done. The manager is not willing to provide a solution even though I offered to do it on mats to minimize the impact or noise which I think was reasonable.

I’m not one to ever complain and I’ve been a national paying memeber for over 5 years. This is nonsensical and being told “I can’t lift this weight” for no real valid reason is ridiculous.

I’m currently at a turning point of cancelling my membership because I can’t do what I have do at the gym which is not only legal but also what it’s been made for.
