Proper procedure not followed

Just recently I went to my nearest virgin active gym to sign up, actually looking forward to having my membership activated and all, but I’m told that I was handed over.

So back in 2017 or 2018 when I was a varsity student at Bloemfontein, I had app**** to for membership - at the time there was a promo that if you sign up you get a free bag. A consultant from one of the clubs there called me and we started the application over the phone, so I had to pay the activation amount - of which we agreed that I’d go directly to the club to pay so I can same time get the access card. So the guy activated the membership even before I could pay, next thing I’m owing about R2000 and I cannot get hold of the person who assisted me, I tried to get clarity on the matter and ask how am I owing when I did not even pay the activation fee, with no access card and no “promo bag” given to me - I never even got the chance to step inside any club at that time.

I would like to know why was I handed over when that staff member misled me and did their own things just to get a member signed up, I was never even contacted for all that!
