Poor handling of member safety and customer service at Virgin Active Waterfall
I would like to raise a concern regarding an incident that occurred this morning at Virgin Active Waterfall. Due to both studios being occupied with scheduled classes, I used the passage area between the two studios to complete my workout. Shortly thereafter, three members approached me and requested that I move my mat so they could use the space for HYROX training, specifically to throw medicine ***** against the frames in that area. I politely explained that I only had 15 minutes remaining in my session and that they could make full use of the space thereafter. Instead of accommodating this reasonable request, I was repeatedly asked to move, even being told to relocate into a studio that had just become available. I again reiterated that I would be finished shortly. The situation escalated when the members brought two Virgin Active staff members, Given and Tshololo, to intervene. Rather than balancing the needs of all members, the staff insisted that I move further into the walkway to accommodate the HYROX exercise. I clearly raised a safety concern, explaining that medicine ball throws in close proximity could pose a risk if the ball were to fall or be misdirected. Despite this, my concern was dismissed. While I eventually allowed limited use of the space, I was spoken to in a dismissive and unprofessional manner by both staff members, particularly Given, who was unapologetic and insistent that the area was designated for HYROX training. The interaction was handled poorly and took place in full view of other gym members, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. As a long-standing member, I am disappointed by how this was managed. The gym has recently undergone upgrades, but with increased marketing and new memberships, the space has become overcrowded. Unfortunately, no expansion of training areas has been provided to accommodate this growth, which is now impacting member experience. A more reasonable and respectful approach could have been taken. I was already accommodating by indicating I would vacate the area shortly, and I believe other members could have adjusted their workout for a brief period rather than forcing the situation. I trust that Virgin Active will address both the conduct of staff and the broader issue of overcrowding to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for all members.
