paying free money without utilizing products

Last year around December i decided to join the gym since it is in my way to and from work. The sole purpose was for health reasons and to keep fit. I decided to take a two year contract for R440 p.m, which was reasonable as i would gym every night after work and take the bus home, due to lack of transport. I was than relocated to another city where there is no virgin active gym but well other gyms that I could join. Herewith I called virgin active to find out if i can cancel my contract or if there is no alternative way as I have now relocated and will not be able to gym and if there is no other way of doing this.

Well to my surprise the consultant told me that if I want to cancel my contract I have to pay approx. R3125 at the time or freeze the contract for 2 months and pay half my installment, but still not make use of any facilities. Mind you for the past months ( apprx 5 months R2200) I have not been using the gym due to the fact that I now stay in another location, but I am still paying full R440, no one called to ask why i am not using the services or offer me an discounted amount or reduced installment, which I am willing to pay, but i still have to pay for something i have not been using, i mean they do have a record system that shows when a member is using the gym or when they are not, al they worry about is the money, because even if i do not pay my installment i will be in arrears and still be held liable to pay that money.

I just feel that I am being ****** for paying something that I am not using as well as been offer a ridiculous amount to cancel to pay for something i will not even benefit from. I really want to gym but due to work circumstances of being relocated to another city is out of my control.

We as South African work hard for money but is still being ribbed off by big companies. If my matter is not looked into i will refuse to pay any further and I will wait for Virgin active to take me to court, for arrears and than see who will pay for services and products not rendered. That is why people are now joining planet fitness and all these other gyms.
