Pathetic customer service

I have terminated my accound with virgin active a while back. A week ago they called with the special promising they can cancel anytime and I signed up for it. when i went to the gym no one is willing to assist and now when i call they dont want to cancel the membership. I have never felt so stupid as how virgin active played me and now they dont want to assist cancel it.
